Leadership Lessons from CEO
WK Rokan is an old oil block and has all the technical complexities of old sites (depleting reservoir, aging equipment and so on) coupled with unique and challenging non-technical complexities.
With all these challenges, it takes a tough CEO to lead WK Rokan to its full potential and move the organization to solve all these challenges together.
During my 7+ years tenure in WK Rokan, I have been blessed with rare opportunities to observe the President Director/CEO of the two major oil and gas companies operating WK Rokan in action (Chevron and PT PERTAMINA HULU ROKAN). Learning from the leaders of the two different and distinct companies on how to lead Rokan block, I gained a very enlightening insight on leadership that applies universally.
The keys to their effective leadership boil down to empathy and decisiveness.
Empathy comes from actively listening to the challenges faced by the frontline through regular site visits and decisiveness comes from following up with the support and solutions to remove the challenges and roadblocks through clear strategic and tactical guidance to direct the actions effectively. The combination when applied can make someone a highly dependable leader that can lead through any challenging situation.
